Every year people are interviewed, nominated, awarded for the Nobel Prize for their achievements in the field of work such as chemistry, physics, medicines, and literature, and for efforts on behalf of peace.
The Nobel prizes were started by Alfred Nobel, a Swedish chemist who did a great deal to help the science of destruction. He was born in Stockholm and lived from 1833 to 1896.
It is thought that he made deadly explosives like dynamite, blasting gelatin etc. and so tried to do something Nobel for the world. When he died, he left a fund of $9,000,000. The money was to be used in giving away prizes to those who stand extra ordinary in their field of work. The first Nobel Prize was granted in 1901. Winning the Nobel Prize is considered as the highest honor that can be achieved.
