Control blood sugar levels and boost insulin functioning using natural remedies for diabetes.

Natural remedies for diabetes can be effective in keeping blood sugar levels under control. Diabetes is a condition in which a person has too much sugar in his blood. This happens because a diabetic's pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin to transport sugar, also known as glucose, to the cells, where it is stored and used for energy.

The excess sugar in the blood can cause other health problems, if it's not properly treated. Symptoms of diabetes include, frequent thirst or urination, sores that take a long time to heal, constant thirst and hunger, and blurred vision. Other symptoms are frequent infections, dry skin, and unexplained weight loss.

Type 1 diabetes occurs when the pancreas produces very little if any insulin. This form of diabetes occurs mostly among children and teens. Type 2 is the most common form. In this case, the body starts to resist the effects of insulin, or there is just not enough insulin in the body for a person to have a healthy blood sugar level. Type 2 diabetes occurs most often in adults.

Magnesium

People who have diabetes, or who are at risk for the disease, should eat foods that are rich in magnesium. Magnesium is a mineral the body needs in order to stay healthy. According to the National Institutes of Health, magnesium can help regulate the production and function of insulin in the body, and it helps control blood sugar levels. People who include magnesium in their diet are less likely to develop diabetes.

Experts recommend that women consume around 300 mg of magnesium daily. The recommended daily allowance for men is 400mg. A person can get magnesium by eating green leafy vegetables, such as spinach. Magnesium is also found in nuts like almonds and cashews. Other sources of this mineral include whole grains and oats.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is also an effective natural diabetes treatment. Numerous studies indicate that apple cider, and other types of vinegar can actually reduce the blood sugar levels of people who have type 2 diabetes. In order to get the best results, a person should take two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar at bed time.

Researchers at the University of Arizona analyzed the effects of apple cider on people who have type 2 diabetes. They found that apple cider vinegar can reduce a person's blood sugar levels by as much as 6 percent in about two days. Other studies found that if people have a small amount of apple cider vinegar with their meals, it can reduce the spike in blood sugar that often occurs after a person eats.

Cinnamon as a Natural Diabetes Treatment
-------------------------------------------------

Research indicates that cinnamon can also be used as a natural diabetes treatment. In a 2006 study at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center, researchers found that cinnamon acts as an anti-inflammatory, and has a similar effect on the body as insulin. All it takes is a half of a teaspoon of cinnamon each day to get results.

Fruits and vegetables are also effective natural remedies for diabetes. They contain fiber and nutrients which help regulate the body's blood sugar levels. Fresh foods that are particularly beneficial include cranberries, bananas, grapefruit, and blueberries. Recommended vegetables include carrots, cabbage, and cucumbers. A person can get their daily intake of cinnamon by sprinkling it on salads.
